   Louisiana Junior Show Circuit

SHOWMANSHIP 

    a) Showmanship classes must be available to exhibitors in four arranged categories. ​An Overall                             Champion and Overall Reserve Champion Showman will be selected in each Species.

        The animal that was used in respective showmanship class must ame animal used in Overall

        Champion Showmanship drive.

     b)Four Divisions:

             1)  Novice - under 9 years old competing for points. Must show animal without assistance

               2)  Junior - 9 thru 11 years old

               3)  Intermediate - 12 thru 14 years old

               4)  Senior - 15 and older 

       c)  Age as of January 1, 2025 is age to use for LJSC showmanship.  If you wish to "bump up" an age                       division that is allowed but must show in that age division the entire summer show season. Once you

           show up cannot go back down to your appropriate age division. Peewee showmanship under 9 years 

           of age not competing for points.  Peewee in not eligible for OVERALL CHAMPION SHOWMAN.

      d)  Showmanship: If there is more than 10 exhibitors in a division that division will be split into heats.  

            No more than 10 exhibitors in each heat but equally divided. Each heat will receive class points. When

            there are two or more heats in a division the first place winner in each heat will be brought back for 

            Overall Champion. After the championship is selected the second place from that class will be brought

            back for reserve selection.


PLACINGS

        1) Showmanship:   Must place through 9th place. Overall Champion and Overall Reserve Champion

             will be selected.

        2) Market classes: Must place top 9 places.

             Grand and Reserve Champions must be selected.

     

 Judges - A judge shall honesty, fairly, and impartially judge each animal exhibited to him or her, strictly on                            the animal's confirmation and performances as the rulrs of the event dictated. They must be                                  knowledgeable in each species judging.


 Sanctioned shows will pay $1.00 per head to the LJSC for each animal (member and non-member entries)

                 entered in their show. Including showmanship and classes.


 Show managers must provide full results to LJSC immediately following the show.


 All champions pictures need to be taken and submitted to Nancy Nettles for webpage and Facebook.


 LJSC STRONGLY urges each show - PAYOUT NOT BE TO ONLY CHAMPIONS but pay some amount

                  as class premium. If not paying premiums it needs to be stated on Show flyer.


 The LJSC doesn't want to dictate how each show is run, but sanctioned shows must follow the LJSC 

                    guidelines to increase fairness og the LJSC point systems and rie or oules. Failure to comply with the

                  LJSC guidelines may result in not being sanctioned in future years.  Show committees are not

                  responsible for LJSC points calculations. 


Each show manager must sign form that they have read and will adhere to the guidelines and bylaws set 

                  forth by the LJSC. If a show is cancelled within 2 weeks from scheduled show date that show

                  manager will be fined $100.00 and may result in not being a sanctioned show in future years.


SHOW COMMITTES ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR LJSC POINT CALCULATIONS, BUT ACCURATE

                RESULTS ARE VITAL!!!!!!



Section 3. Hardship

      ​a) GUIDELINES FOR GRANTING HARDSHIP :            

               1)  Replacement animals should be comparable quality.  Replacement of animal will be considered

                        only to those exhibitors with one animal project per species.

                   2)  A member has an animal or otherwise deemed unfit to show (severely injured). The board

                        reserves the right to give approval for the exhibitor to purchase an animal that has already

                        been shown for points from another member, that purchased animal cannot go back to previous

                        owner to be shown for points.  To begin hardship process immediately, notify LJSC (Nancy

                        Nettles, email: Membynancy1@aol.com).

                   3)  If that animal has been previously shown for points, the exhibitor that previously owned the

                         "transferred animal" can no longer receive points from the  "transferred animal". The new                                     owner of the "transferred animal" will receive points after date of transfer of the new 

                         ownership, but any points previously received by the "transferred animal" will not transfer with

                         the ownership of animal. Bill of sale or donation must be submitted to the board.

                   4)  The hardship will be on a case by case and must be voted on and approved by majority of the

                        board at the time the exhibitor suffers the loss. In other words. this transfer must be approved 

                        ASAP after the loss occurs.  There needs to be some form of proof of loss.  All hardship cases

                        will be voted on and approved prior to date of next show.  There is no guarantee that majority of

                        the board will be at every show. Therefore no guarantee that a hardship can be voted on and                                approved on a show day. NO POINTS WILL BE AWARDED TO ANY EXHIBITOR FOR A                                      HARDSHIP CASE THAT DOES NOT RECEIVE PRIOR BOARD APPROVAL.



CONSEQUENCES OF VIOLATION OF LJSC RULES/LJSC CODES OF ETHICS (2019)

​          1) First violation of infraction:  A warning will be given.

          2) Second violation of any LJSC Rule or Code of Ethic occurring during the same

              LJSC show season + the points acquired in show of first violation will be forfeited

             as well as the points for the show in question of second violation.

         3) Third offense will result in exhibitor being disqualified for the rest of that LJSC

             season and forfeiture end of your awards.

LA Bred DivisionAll species. LJSC will recognize the top two LA Bred animals in each species at the LJSC Awards Banquet.

       a)To qualify for LJSC LA Bred program....

          1) Each animals must pay a $10.00 one-time entry fee/year and complete a LJSC form which will be good for the                   entire 2025[ LJSC show season to receive LA Bred points.

          2) NO DUAL ENTRIES for animal.

          3) Each exhibitor will be responsible for providing LA Bred number/ ear notch on weight card at each show.                          Information on LJSC Bred form and weight card must match to receive points. To receive points all LaBred 

              Will receive LA Bred points when all LA Bred information is complete and returned to Nancy Nettles.

          4) Points will be based on actual class placings.

          5) Not any LA Bred Champions will be selected at the show. 

          6) Breeders of top LA Bred animals will also be recognized at Awards Banquet.  


​Requirement to qualify for LA Bred animal: 

          1. Animal must be conceived, born, and raised in Louisiana.

          2. The breeder must be a member in good standing with their respective association: LPPA, LSPA, or LMGA. 


LJSC LA Bred Market Points will be same as Market Class.


Amendmend of the 2020 LJSC Bylaws - ​May 26, 2019

         Show is encouraged to offer pre-entry fees. Recommend Class entry fee $16 and showmanship $6. Add $10 extra if paying day of show.

​Section 2. LJSC Sanctioned Show 

            1) ​​​NO ALCOHOL PERMITTED  (2017)

            2) LJSC Show exhibitors, members and non-members, family, or guardian shall abide by ALL RULES of                 the LJSC and LJSC Code of Ethics. Must also sign a LJSC Disclaimer Release.

          3)  To be eligible to show at an LJSC show Exhibitors must not be banned due to ethical violations or

               positive drug testing issues at respective parish/county, district, state, or national shows. (2018) 

          4)  ​LJSC sanctioned show open to anyone that meets age requirement for LJSC membership, but points                       are only for LJSC members.  Age eligiblity age zero and not over nineteen years of age as of                                       December 31, 2025. Must meet age requirements for State Fair of Louisiana, with the exception of Novice 

               and Peewee requirements.

          5)  Points will only be accumulated for LJSC sanctioned shows.

          6)  Scratching an Entry - any entry that is scratched after the Entry deadline will forfeit entry fees.

           7)  Shows must be registered with the LJSC to become sanctioned. Sanctioned shows must abide by the                             guidelines, failure to do so may result in a show not being sanctioned the next year.

          8)  Shows are encouraged to offer pre-entry fees. Recommended Class Entry $21.00/ Showmanship $11.00

​​                and add $10.00 extra if paying day of show.

          9)  Class size should try and be as equal in quantity and weight spread (approximately 10 pounds) as possible 

                to increase fairness. Understanding first and last class might be the exception.​​


Amendmend of the 2019 LJSC Bylaws - ​July 29, 2019

         1) Consequences of Violation of LJSC Rules/ LJSC Code of Ethics (2019)

                  a) First violation: A warning will be given. 

                  b) Second violation occurring during the same LJSC show season - the points acquired                           in show of first violation  will  be forfeited as well as the points for the  show in                                     question of second violation.

                   c) Third offense will result in exhibitor being disqualified for the rest of that LJSC 

                        season and forfeiture of end of year awards.

        2) If the Exhibitor has more than one animal in a class, someone else can show the "owners"

             animal and the owner receive points for that animal. Substitute showman must be an                         eligible bbullet 5 of the LJSC Rulesrefer to Division IV, 

Amendmend of the 2021 LJSC Bylaws - ​March 3, 2021

       Exhibitors must have their required book of fundraiser tickets sold and money turned in by first weekend of August. We will continue to sell tickets until drawing which will be during State Fair ALTAC Livestock sale. 2021

       

​​​                 Code​​ of ETHICS for LOUISIANA JUNIOR SHOW CIRCUIT:                          ​        Any violation of the LJSC Code of Ethics is grounds for removal from the                                          Louisiana Junior Show Circuit.​​​

                 1)​​     LJSC members, non-members,  family, or guardian shall conduct themselves in a responsible and prudent                           manner always to defend and protect the reputation of themselves and Louisiana Junior Show Circuit.

                 2)     ​LJSC members, non-members.  family, or guardian will be just and fair in any dealings with each other.

                 3)     LJSC members, non-members,  family, or guardian shall abide by all rules of the LJSC and shall respect                               both themselves and their animals in an honest and law abiding manner always. No LJSC member, non-                               members, family, or guardian shall use any unethical means to achieve an unfair advantage over his or her                           fellow exhibitor​.

Amendmend of the 2015 LJSC Bylaws - ​May 18, 2016

         1) Showmanship:  If there is more than ten exhibitors in a division that division will be split into heats, No more ten exhibitors in each heat but equally divided.  Each heat will receive class points. When there are two or more heats in a division the first place winners from each heat will be brought back for Overall Champion, after the champion is selected the second place from that class will be brought back for reserve selection.


       2) ​LA Bred Division: ​ all species. LJSC will recognize the top two LA Bred animals in each species at the LJSC Awards Banquet. To qualify for LJSC LA Bred program..... ​​VIII. Rewards and Benefits:

​Section 1. LJSC Rules

  • ​​​​Ownership of animal for 2025 LJSC SHOW SEASON (not State Fair of Louisiana):

        1)  Animals must be OWNED, ENTERED, and SHOWN by the individual LJSC member for POINTS 

               to accumulated in the LJSC member's name.

         2)   If the Exhibitor has more than one animal in a class,  someone else can show the "owners" 

               animal and the Owner will receive the points. (2019) Substitute exhibitor must be eligible. Refer to  Section 1.                 Rules , ​4th Bullet.

​         3)   ONCE a LJSC MEMBER has shown an animal for points. NO OTHER LJSC MEMBER is                                           eligible to receive points for that animal unless it  is sold. A written receipt/invoice must be 

               submitted to LJSC, % Nancy Nettles, 526  Benjamin St., Coushatta, LA 71019 or email to                                                 Membynancy1@aol.com prior to showing that animal to be eligible to receive POINTS.

         4)  To be eligible to show at an LJSC show Exhibitors must not be banned due to ethical violations or

               positive drug testing issues at respective parish/county, district, state, or national shows. (2018) 

         5)   ​LJSC show exhibitors and family members shall abide by all rules of the LJSC and LJSC code of ethics.                         Must sign LJSC Disclaimer Release.

         6)   NO ALCOHOL PERMITTED on premises!!!!

  •       ​If there is a swap between 1st and 2nd show,  points will stick with ownership at 2nd show. No further           swapping after 2nd show.
  •       Animals MUST have an Ear tag and /or Ear notch preferably Ear tag. It will no longer be acceptable to        ENTER with a nickname such as Spot, Blackie, Blue, Breeder's name, etc. to receive points!!!
  •     *NEW ONLY for first show of the LJSC show season can an animal that is not banded can show. Any show      after this date (June 27th swine) & (June 28th sheep & goats) MUST BE BANDED. NO INTACT MALES may       be shown. Gilts, ewes, and does are eligible.  Anyone found in violation will automatically be disqualified and         all places will bump up. (Example: if won 1st place in the class the 2nd place animal will move to 1st place             and the respective places will bump up. All entry fees, premiums, and points will be forfeited,
  •      All species show by weight only, no breeds.
  •      Goats must be dehorned, polled, or disbudded. Any scurs or horn structures must be blunted. Not to exceed          one inch in length.
  • ​      NO Painting, Adhesive, Powdering, or Artificial  coloring allowed.
  • ​      LJSC reserves the right to ask any exhibitor, parent, or guardian to remove any animal (s) that are exhibiting          any  signs or symptoms of an illness or disease including but not limited to infectious and non-infectious                conditions.

    FOR YOUR INFORMATION: STATE LAW "ACT 461"

    BECAME EFFECTIVE AUGUST 15, 1998

    The tampering of animals falls under the Cruelty to Animals; simple and aggravated part of Act 461, which               states:

           A .  Any person who intentionally or with criminal negligence, tortures, maims,mutilates,or maliciously kills any                            living animal, whether belonging to himself or another, shall be guilty of aggravated cruelty to animals.

           B.  Any person who tampers with livestock at a public livestock exhibition or at a private sale shall also be guilty of                   aggravated cruelty to animals.

           C.   Any person who causes or procures to be done by any act designated in this Subsection shall also be guilty of                   aggravated cruelty to animals. 

           D.  Whoever commits the crime of aggravated cruelty to animals shall be fined not less than five thousand dollars                     or more than twenty-five thousand dollars imprisoned, with or without hard labor, for not less than one year or                     more than ten years, or both.

           E.   For purposes of this Subsection, where more than one animal is tortured, maimed, mutilated, or maliciously                       killed or  where more than one head of livestock is tampered with, each act comprises a separate offenses.

         Amendments to LJSC Bylaws - May 14, 2014


              1)  An exhibitor WILL NOT receive any points for placings from a show that the entry fees for that                   exhibitor were paid with a check with insufficient funds until the check is made good. Furthermore,                     exhibitors will not be eligible for any year-end awards as long as there is money owed from                                   insufficient funds.

              2) Each exhibitor will be responsible for selling at least on book of tickets for LJSC fundraisers.                     Exhibitors must have tickets sold and money turned in by the conclusion of the last show so that                       points can be figured and awards ordered.  Each exhibitor that sells at least two books will receive                     20 bonus pointsExample - 2014 Aluminum Livestock popper. The tickets will be for a $5.00                                   donation  and a book consists of 10 tickets.  We will sell tickets throughout the State Fair. The                             drawing will be day of ALTAC SALE.

      LJSC Disclaimer of Responsibility for Actions Taken by Board of Directors

       As an express condition of the privelege to participate at LJSC sanctioned shows or events, each member             of the LJSC, their families and associates, agree to hold harmless the LJSC, its officers, directors, and                   employees from and against all claims, losses, demands, obligations, causes of action and law suits and all           damages (including punitive and exemplary damages), liabilities (including strict liability), fines, penalties,             judgements, costs (including settlement cost), and expenses associated therewith (including the payment             of reasonable atttorneys fees and disbursements) (hereafter electively called Damages) to the extent that               damages arise out of:

             1) The failure of the member or his family or associates to comply with the terms and conditions of these                    rules and regulations.

             2) Action taken by the LJSC, its officers, directors or employees involving the member or his or her                             family or associates.

             3) ​Actions taken by the management of a sanctioned show towards the member or his or her family or                       associates.

           LJSC DISCLAIMER OF RESPONSIBILITY OF SHOW PARTICIPANTS


  •   Show management is responsible for the condition of the show premises, including the arena and stalling      areas, the conduct and competence of show employees, and other representatives: implementation of            show activities and events; and other aspects of their show.
  •   LJSC does not assume or accept duty of responsibility for safety at a sanctioned show in regard to                participants or any other third parties or the the livestock or other property thereof.
  •   ​As an express condition of the privilege to participate at LJSC sanctioned shows or events, each member      of the LJSC, their families, third parties, and all participants assume the risks of participation, and release      and discharge the LJSC, its officers, directors, representatives, and employees from any and all liability,        whenever or however arising, as to personal injury, or property damage occurring as a result of                        participation in an event conducted by the sanctioned show on the show grounds thereof.

         ANIMAL WELFARE STATEMENT

​         ​Each animal exhibited at a LJSC sanctioned show shall, at all times, be treated humanely and with dignity,             respect, and compassion.  The standard by which conduct or treatment shall be measured is that a                         reasonable  person informed and experienced in generally accepted livestock exhibition training                             procedures or veterinary  standards, would determine cruel, abusive, or inhumane. (The LJSC executive board has the final decision on  disqualifying individuals who do not observe these standards).

YEAR - END AWARDS : Must attend at least 4 shows and sell one book of fundraiser tickets/species shown

. Required one book of tickets must be turned in by conclusion of 2025 Winn Summer Sizzler show.

LJSC awards that  will be present awards: 

         1) Top Ten Market Animals each species ( Swine, Sheep, Goats)

         2) Top Ten Showman in each species. (Swine, Sheep, Goats)

         3) Top Two La Bred Animal each species (Swine, Sheep, Goats)

         4) Top Two La Bred Breeder of each species

         5) Top Peewee showmen

​         6)  Perfect Attendance

         7) Participation


  In the event of a tie, the following tie-breakers will determine the placing:

  1. Number of Shows Attended
  2. Number of Animals Exhibited
  3. Number of books of raffle tickets sold


The LJSC will maintain a website (http://Louisianajuniorshowcircuit.org) and a Facebook page (Louisiana Junior Show Circuit) to keep members up-to-date on current events and points.




Division:

      1) Novice Division - 8 years and under competing for points, Must show animal without assistance

​Grand Champion Showman will receive 40 extra points.  Reserve Grand Champion Showman will receive 30 extra points.  If you win Grand Champion Showman will receive 140 points.  Reserve Grand Champion will receive at least 120 points to 130 points.

SHOWMANSHIP POINTS:


The Grand Champion Animal will receive 30 points more than the first place animal in the largest class.  The Reserve Grand Champion Animal will receive 20 points more than the first place in the largest class.  Example: Grand Champion points receive - largest class in show had 11 animals so will receive 50 points + 30 points + points for winning your class (6 animals=45pts) total of 125 points.

​MARKET POINTS:

​A member cannot show an animal that they do not own for LJSC points.  Only the top 5 animals must be place; the remaining LJSC members in that class will receive 5 points for participation. Members will receive points on their top two animals in each species.


​Market Points will be determined by the following table:

Points will be awarded for actual placings of LJSC member.  Example: 1st place non LJSC member, 2nd place LJSC member, next LJSC member places 5th. (6-10 animals in class) 0 points given for 1st place, 40 points for 2nd, 0 points for 3rd and 4th place, 25 points for 5th place and any other LJSC member in that class will receive 5 points. Will drop points as outlined above.

VI. Point System

​​​Eligibility of Points

  • For 2025 LJSC show season only, ​Members must show in at least 4 LJSC SANCTIONED SHOWS to earn Year-End Awards.
  • Animals must be owned,entered and shown by the indidivual LJSC member for the points to be accumulated in the member's name.  The only exception is if the exhibitor has more than one animal in the same class. In this case, the animal must be shown by another exhibitor for owner to receive points.
  • Points will be kept on the top two animals for each species for each exhibitor at each approved show. (Example if an exhibitor shows four pigs and three lambs then the only points that will count are the top two pigs and top two lambs.  Membership in the LJSC requires a $20 membership/species.
  • Will receive points for actual placing of each exhibitor. No bumping up if someone that places ahead of you is not a member you will receive points for your actual placing.
  • Guidelines for how points will be dropped. Ten or more shows drop 2 shows. Six to nine shows drop 1 show.  Five or less shows drop 0 shows.
  • Can only drop shows that you are a paid LJSC member.


Year - End Awards:

The LJSC will present awards for the top ten Market animals and the top ten Showmen in each species. In the event of a tie, the following tie-breakers will determine the placing:

  1. Number of Shows Attended
  2. Number of Animals shown
  3. ​Number of Fundraiser Books Sold

IV.  LJSC Rules and Shows

  • ​Membership in the LJSC requires a $20.00 membership/species.  Louisiana Residents only.
  • Points will not begin to accumulate until you become a member of the LJSC.  Therefore, you must sign-up and pay dues before a show starts in order to accumulate points for that show.
  • The LJSC show is open to anyone from the age of zero and not more than nineteen years old as of December 31, 2025 from Louisiana and must be eligible to show at the 2025 State Fair of Louisiana, with the exception Novice & Peewee not meeting age requirements of State Fair. (2019) To show or earn points the exhibitor must beable to show by themselves without assistance unless they are physically challenged. Exhibitor must not be banned from show due to ethical violations or positive drug testing at respective parish, district, state, or national shows, (2019)
  • FUNDRAISERS: Each exhibitor will be responsible for selling at least one (1) book of tickets/species  for LJSC fundraiser each year. Which is an Aluminum truck popper this year (2014.) The tickets will be for a $5.00 donation and there will be 10 tickets per book, Each exhibitor that sells at least two (2) books will receive 20 bonus points. Exhibitors must have their tickets sold and money turned in by the conclusion of last show so that points can be figured, and awards ordered. we will continue selling tickets through the State Fair. The drawing will be day of ALTAC Sale.
  • 2018 Fundraiser: Gift card wreath valued at minimum of $500.00. Each member to donate a gift card $10 minimum value and sell one book of tickets. For every book of tickets sold (after required one) your name goes in the pot for a drawing of $100 cash. Example 5 books sold = 4 tickets in pot or 2 gift cards = 1 ticket in pot.

  • 2024 Fundraiser: Exhibitors must have their required book of tickets/species sold and money turned in by the second weekend of August. We will continue to sell tickets until LJSC Awards Banquet. The drawing will be night of the LJSC Awards Banquet. 



III. Membership

The Board's duty will be to administer the general affairs of the LJSC.  A total of 9 members will comprise the board: three from each species ( swine, sheep, and goats.).  Board members will be determined by a nomination committee when a board position becomes open.  Executive members will be determined by a nomination and vote of the elected board members, which will include President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.  Each member will serve a three year term with no term limit to how many terms can served.  A  board member that misses more than two meetings and isn't active will be subject to replacement.  There must be at least one member from each species and a total of five board members present for a quorum.  In order to vote a quorum must be met.

Goals of the LJSC

  • Allow junior exhibitors to participate and compete throughout the summer and receive awards for their hard work and dedication to the swine, sheep, and goat projects.
  • Provide a learning experience for both junior members and their families by showing swine, sheep, and goats providing leadership,showing abilities, cooperation, and  presenting good sportsmanship.
  • Provide support for the state and national swine, sheep, and goat breeders.
  • Contribute assistance to the Louisiana swine, sheep, and goat programs
  • To promote the welfare of the Louisiana livestock industry.
  • To provide opportunities for youth to acquire life skills such as: KNOWLEDGE, RESPONSIBILITY, DECISION MAKING, PUBLIC SPEAKING,  and  LEADERSHIP​. These skills are obtained through hands-on education and practical behavior that will enable them to become self-directing, productive, and contributing members of society.
  • Make memories, life long friendships, and have fun!!!!!


The LJSC is organized and managed by a group of volunteers. To participate and receive awards in the Louisiana Junior Show Circuit, you must submit a membership form and pay a $20.00 per Species fee. Payable to the LJSC.  Memberships open only to Louisiana residents. This membership fee will automatically enroll you as a member in the Louisiana Junior Show Circuit.  No points will be accumulated until the membership fee is paid and the membership form is turned into the LJSC.  Forms will be available at each show and membership will be accepted at any time throughout the year.

The Louisiana Junior Show Circuit ( LJSC) is designed to allow junior livestock enthusiast to participate and compete at LJSC sanctioned shows.  The LJSC members will accumulate points for exhibiting their market swine, market sheep, and market goats at sanctioned shows throughout the show season.  Awards will be presented at the conclusion of the circuit to exhibitors who achieve top honors for swine, sheep, and goat in performance, showmanship, and participation.​


It is our goal and responsibility to FOLLOW THE RULES and SET the Best Example possible for all youth, adults, and anyone else involved in the livestock industry.  This should be achieved at all levels: Parish, District, State and National.  Our job is to recruit and teach others about the livestock industry by setting good examples.
